The U.K. and Ireland box office experienced a highly competitive frame as Paramount’s franchise revival “Scary Movie” secured the top spot, debuting to a robust £4.1 million ($5.6 million).
Debuting in second place, Piece Of Magic Entertainment’s “The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act” captured $3.6 million. At No. 3, fantasy epic “Masters Of The Universe,” distributed by Sony, opened with $3.5 million.
A24’s psychological horror “Backrooms” moved to fourth in its sophomore session, adding $3 million to its haul and has now amassed a cumulative total of $11.6 million.
Universal’s horror-romance “Obsession” was at No. 5, banking $2.5 million in its fourth weekend of release for a running total of $13.8 million.
Disney’s “The Mandalorian And Grogu” was in sixth place during its third weekend, pulling in $1.8 million to lift its cume to $18.8 million. Universal’s long-running biographical musical drama “Michael” took seventh place in its seventh week of release, generating $1.8 million and a cumulative $67.7 million.
“The Sheep Detectives,” distributed by Sony, followed in eighth place during its fifth frame, adding $745,302 for a total of $12.4 million. Disney’s “The Devil Wears Prada 2” claimed the ninth spot in its sixth week with $730,187, pushing its cume to $44.8 million. Black Bear’s “Tuner” rounded out the top 10 in its sophomore frame, taking $583,456 for a total of $1.4 million.
Looking ahead to the upcoming frame, the theatrical schedule is highlighted by major mid-week and Friday openings. Universal anchors the arrivals on Wednesday June 11 with Universal’s “Disclosure Day,” directed by Steven Spielberg and featuring a cast including Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo launching into over 300 locations.
Arriving on Friday 12 June, wide and specialized independent offerings include Trinity CineAsia’s anime feature “Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway.” It joins Sean Robert Dunn’s “The Fall Of Sir Douglas Weatherford” through Mubi in over 25 sites, alongside Julian Schnabel’s “In the Hand of Dante” streaming via Netflix in a limited theatrical run of fewer than 25 screens.
Two Fresh Distribution is handling the release of the documentary “Kapodistrias, (The Governor)” while “Fight Like A Girl” is being distributed by the Underground Slate banner. Dogwoof Films debuts Sara Dosa’s climate documentary “Time and Water,” while Entertainment Film Distributors’ “Solo Mio” and Singeetham Srinivasa Rao’s Telugu musical fantasy “Sing Geetham” also arrive on the slate.
Repertory and restoration options will also bolster the marketplace, including a wide 100+ location reissue of Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Boogie Nights (4K Restoration).” Additional retrospective titles include a 4K restoration of Baz Luhrmann’s classic “Strictly Ballroom” hitting over 25 screens, and BFI Distribution’s specialized art-house reissue of James Bidgood’s “Pink Narcissus” across a small footprint.
